Hi friends, we were blown away by our gig in Blue Ash, Ohio yesterday. We like to support young bands who play original material, so when we have an opportunity to give a new band a shot, we do it. Our agency knows that we are picky about who opens for us, so they submit the band’s music, and we either approve or not.
Some years ago we needed an acoustic opener on a big festival in Houston, and we okayed an unknown singer songwriter by the name of Zack Brown. Zack has done pretty well! Many of you probably saw Tyler Bryant and Shakedown when they opened for us in 2010. Tyler just finished a massive tour with AC/DC. We take pride in the artists we showcase on our shows.
Last night we were proud to put The Steel Woods on our show in Blue Ash. These guys are the real deal. They are a four piece…two guitars, bass and drums…and their sound and their songs are just plain solid and soulful. We all sat in the wings and watched their entire set, and it was one well written song after another. If you like southern rock, well played and sung, you need to check these guys out. Their first album is available now. What a treat.
Oh yeah, there were an estimated 150,000 plus people on hand for our show and the amazing fireworks display last night. It was an awesome sight from the stage, people as far as the eye could see, and then some.
Tonight we play here in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan, then we close this leg of the tour tomorrow night at Summerfest in Milwaukee.
We join back up with Styx and Don Felder for the second leg of United We Rock in Tampa on July 18.
See you then…kc
