Blog Update (1/27/17): Rock Legends Cruise

written by REO Speedwagon

Ahoy there friends,

anybody know how long it might take until I feel like my house has stopped swaying as if I am still at sea? Kidding, my land legs are solid, but no matter how long it might have taken, the Rock Legends Cruise was beyond well worth it.

I have never been a big time cruise guy, but I was wishing this one would have lasted a few more days…it was that much fun. Lisa, Cindi, Kimmie, Darya, and Dee Dee were all on board. It was the first time in twenty-seven years that all the band members, plus each of our wives/significant others were all together in the same place at the same time.

Another cool thing about this event is that at any given moment there were at least three bands playing in different venues, non-stop meet and greets, live interviews, acoustic sets…this is the only way to cruise baby! The fans were all totally into it, and at the same time very respectful of the bands’ space. It was quite remarkable in that way.

We also got to be fans. Dave sat in with Don Felder on “Hotel California”, and I finally got to tell my Grand Funk Railroad story from when I was in college, to Mark Farner himself! Derek St Holmes sang “Stranglehold” with us, Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith played with Thin Lizzy, April Wine, who was our special guest on the final show of the High Infidelity tour in front of 60,000 people at the stadium in Milwaukee, rocked the boat, (pun intended…sorry:), and of course Pat Benatar’s voice is a national treasure, just to mention a few of the many highlights.

On a personal level, it was great to get away from it all, just Lisa and me. Life in the 21st century can get pretty overwhelming at times, and we all need to remember to take some time to renew and recharge, even if it’s just for a few days. It is so important for husbands and wives to remember how it feels to be boyfriend and girlfriend.

Sammy Hagar is scheduled for the Rock Legends Cruise next year, and if they invited us to go back to back, I would be there in a heartbeat!

Our band and crew get a much-deserved winter break, then we have some evening with REO shows in late March. Stay tuned, as we will have a very special announcement regarding the 2017 summer tour coming up in the near future.

Stay warm, much love…
