The South Island rocked, when the annual nationwide Summer Concert Tour kicked off in Queenstown with international rock artists HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS, REO SPEEDWAGON & MELISSA ETHERIDGE performing to another sell-out crowd of 16,000 at the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert.
With many commenting that this is the best Summer Concert Tour line up yet, Queenstown turned on the ideal concert day, with temperatures in the low twenties and cloud cover most of the day. With the wonderful background of the Crown Range beyond, the crowd witnessed a total of five amazing acts.

Local artists Best Served Chilled, along with Near Armageddon, took to the stage late morning to set the mood for these unique afternoon concerts, while the fast growing crowd flowed into the venue with picnic rugs and snacks in hand for the day ahead.

Melissa Etheridge came on stage at 1pm and with her unique and as ever powerful voice, entertaining with a host of her many hit songs including “Bring Me Some Water”, “Come To My Window” and also included a special tribute song to the recent passing of The Eagles- Glenn Fry where Melissa was joined on stage by REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin for a wonderful rendition of “Take It Easy”.
Next up were REO Speedwagon who proved without a power of doubt they’ve still got it, punching out the likes of “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On the Run.” from their album Hi Infidelity, released back in 1980.

At the time of this release the final act for the day, Huey Lewis and The News, were getting ready to take to stage to perform some of their Grammy Award winning hits including ‘If This is It’, ’Heart and Soul’,‘I Want A New Drug’ and ‘Power of Love’.

Amanda Calvert, CEO of Greenstone Entertainment says, “The first of our three concert tour has been a huge success! Queenstown as always is a wonderful location to bring the Summer Concert Tour and we’re really looking forward to now taking the show to the North Island next weekend for two more fantastic concerts in the awesome locations of Taupo and Whitianga.”
