Rock legends REO Speedwagon are set to unleash a powerhouse blast from the past with the release of Live At Rockpalast 1979, a two-disc CD and DVD set capturing the band on November 10, 1979, at the Markthalle in Hamburg, Germany, available worldwide on July 26, 2024 at REOspeedwagon.bfan.link/rockpalast. The album’s first single, “Only The Strong Survive,” is available beginning June 21st at reospeedwagon.bfan.link/only-the-strong-survive-live-1979.
Formed in 1967 in Champaign, Illinois, REO Speedwagon solidified their classic lineup in 1977 with Kevin Cronin (vocals, guitar, piano), Gary Richrath (guitar), Bruce Hall (bass), Neal Doughty (keyboards, organs, synthesizer), and Alan Gratzer (drums). This formidable quintet went on a tear, releasing a string of albums – Live: You Get What You Play For, You Can Tune a Piano but You Can’t Tuna Fish, and Nine Lives – that propelled them towards superstardom.
Live At Rockpalast 1979 an electrifying live performance that showcases REO in all their ‘70s rock glory, tearing through classic tracks like “Ridin’ the Storm Out” and “Roll With the Changes,” alongside fan favorites like the set-opening “Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight” and “Easy Money.” The setlist also features hidden gems ripe for rediscovery, including “Heavy on Your Love,” “Golden Country,” and the undeniably awesomely-titled “The Unidentified Flying Tuna Trot.”
