At The Historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa with Edwin McCain

Hi friends, last night we peeled away from the Live and UnZoomed tour, to celebrate BuddyHolly’s birthday from the stage where he played his final show. The historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa has been doing rock shows ever since, and is a cool place to play any time, but on the day Buddy Holly’s would have turned 86, it was extra special.

As I walked in for soundcheck, my phone vibrated with a text from my buddy Edwin McCain (of “I’ll Be“ fame). Edwin had been on a camping trip in Colorado, noticed we were in Iowa, and decided to surprise us with a visit. Edwin is so talented, such a great dude, and always welcome. We hung out, shared crazy stories, and he would end up on stage with us at the Surf.

Nights like this make me so grateful for the life I live, and it is you all, in the great REO Fan Family which continue to make it all possible.

We hop back on with Styx and Loverboy for shows this weekend in Syracuse and Pittsburgh. See you there…much love, kc
